Regional ministerial meeting on climate scheduled for Jan 2025: Rizwana

Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said that a ministerial-level meeting on climate change risks will be held in January 2025, with representatives from Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh expected to attend.
The meeting’s location has not been disclosed yet.
She made the remarks following a bilateral discussion with Nepal’s Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri at the World Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The meeting will focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and addressing loss and damage, she said, adding that Nepal has shown interest in supplying more hydropower to Bangladesh.
The adviser highlighted the necessity of regional cooperation, particularly involving Bhutan, Nepal, and India, to enhance climate resilience and energy collaboration.
She stressed that smaller countries are disproportionately affected by climate change and require collective action to combat its impacts.
Thakuri also emphasised the shared vulnerabilities of South Asian countries to climate change and the need for cross-border collaboration.
“Climate change knows no borders,” he said, urging unified efforts to address its effects.
Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, along with other officials, were present there.
